Shounen Thai Quartet - Chiangmai Debut

Dear Friends

I am delighted to let you know that we will have the very great pleasure of the Shounen-Thai String Quartet from Bangkok here in Chiang Mai during the afternoon of Sunday January 31st! This is wonderful news and even better - their concert is free!!!!! (But we would appreciate a generous donation for the musicians on the day or beforehand). The Quartet, composed of the principals from the relevant sections of the marvelous Siam Sinfonietta - all four in their 20s, has been nurtured and developed by Maestro Somtow who will be presenting them to us that afternoon.

Where and when:

  • Sunday January 31st @ 3.00pm
  • The CRK Recital Room - Payap University (Keow Nawarat Campus opposite McCormick Hospital).

As a free concert there are no tickets as such - but I will receive email reservations at any time or telephone reservations (from 08.00 in the morning until 8.00pm at night) and the first 50 people to reserve seats will be given the best VIP seats in the auditorium - so get phoning or emailing NOW. In any case do please reserve to be assured of a seat.

Ample parking - easy access from the city!

  • The program will consist of two significant ground-breaking string quartets - Quartet No 19 in C K 465 by Mozart (known as The Dissonance Quartet) and Quartet No 8 in C minor opus 110 by Dimitri Shostakovich - I have attached a few background notes for you below.

There is also a poster attached which you might relish keeping as a souvenir of what promises to be one of the musical highlights of the year!

Pull out all stops to be there - let's have a full house on this remarkable occasion.

I mentioned that donbations would be very much appreciated - all the money donated will go directly to these fine young musicians. Should you wish to make a donation beforehand then please ring or email me - the musicians will be hugely grateful!

Remember - the first 50 reservations will be allocated the VIP seats!

I look forward to seeing many of you very shortly on January 31st.
