Opera Siam, entering its Nineteenth Season, is ASEAN's full-service opera, providing a rich season of established classics, innovative new works, contemporary opera, and world premieres of operas by Asian composers. It was the first opera company in the region to present the operas of Richard Wagner, Massenet's Thaïs, Britten's The Turn of the Screw and The Rape of Lucretia, Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle, Hans Krasa's Brundibar, Gustav Holst's Savitri, and the world premieres of a dozen operatic and balletic works by its Artistic Director, Somtow Sucharitkul, a visionary who is one of the handful of living opera composers in the world with a recognized and substantial corpus of operatic works that is performed around the world.
In the coming season there will be the Thailand premiere of the exotic and erotic opera Salome. There will be the world premiere of Somtow’s searing opera about the Holocaust, Helena Citrónová.
