Opera Siam, entering its Eighteenth Season, is ASEAN's full-service opera, providing a rich season of established classics, innovative new works, contemporary opera, and world premieres of operas by Asian composers. It was the first opera company in the region to present the operas of Richard Wagner, Massenet's Thaïs, Britten's The Turn of the Screw and The Rape of Lucretia, Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle, Hans Krasa's Brundibar, Gustav Holst's Savitri, and the world premieres of a dozen operatic and balletic works by its Artistic Director, Somtow Sucharitkul, a visionary who is one of the handful of living opera composers in the world with a recognized and substantial corpus of operatic works that is performed around the world.

In its previous season, Opera Siam began its project to perform all the major operas of Puccini over the next five years. There were productions of La Bohème, Madama Butterfly. Next season we will have Gianni Schicchi.

Next season will open with two highly populist event: The Princess Concert and a full production of a major musical, bringing the classical world to a wider audience. There will also be the Thailand premiere of the exotic and erotic opera Salome.

Also, we will have more episodes of Somtow’s Dasjati series — the ten-part opera sequence that when finished will be the largest unified music work in classical music.
